Getting Started

Logging In

Access Butler Tax at your company's URL. Log in with the email and password registered in Butler Platform — this is the same account you use across the Butler Series.

If your company is connected to a tax accounting firm, your tax firm administrator may have invited you. Open the invitation link to complete first-time login.

Dashboard Overview

The dashboard summarises:

  • Pending approvals waiting for your action
  • Unreconciled bank transactions
  • Recent document activity
  • Alerts from your tax firm (if applicable)

The sidebar groups features by stage:

  • Document Submission — receipt / invoice upload
  • Document Management — list, edit, approve
  • Reconciliation — bank statement matching
  • Outputs — CSV / Zengin / reports
  • Templates — invoice and receipt templates
  • Rules — approval, journal, and matching rules (admin)
  • Master — clients, departments, projects, users

Initial Setup (Admin)

After registering your company, complete the following:

  1. Company ProfileMaster → Company Info Add your company name, address, registration number, and bank accounts. This information is used on issued invoices and Zengin payment files.
  2. Invite UsersMaster → Users Invite employees and assign roles (staff / approver / accounting / manager / admin).
  3. Configure Approval RulesRules → Approval Rules Define who must approve which document types. You can set amount-based conditions (e.g. invoices over ¥100,000 require two approvers).
  4. Add ClientsMaster → Clients Register your regular vendors and customers. You can pre-fill from the Japan corporate-number lookup.
  5. Configure Permissions (optional)Master → Permissions Override the default minimum role for individual features.

Connecting with Your Tax Firm

If your company is managed by a tax firm:

  1. Your tax firm administrator sends an invitation link
  2. Click the link and complete sign-up
  3. Your account is automatically associated with the tax firm
  4. The tax firm can now review your data and assist with operations

When the tax firm is operating on your behalf, you'll see audit log entries showing the tax firm staff member as the actor with a "tax firm proxy" badge.
